Old Man Winter is finally here. We got a taste of a mean clipper last night and this is what we got as a parting gift this morning.

Description
“In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.”Lt.-Col. John McCrae

Description
I think my new obsession is the Macro lens. I love trying to see how close I can get to the flowers or objects. It is incredible how much you can control your depth of field and bring very different images from the same flower. Here are a few I recently did, while others can be found in our Gallery.
This picture is also interesting to me. It looks like such an innocent little container, but it is made of porcupine quills. It is an almost lost art-form of the Ojibway people who live in the region called Manitoulin Island in Ontario. My Mom had seen one on a trip this summer, my Dad secretly bought one for her birthday. It is incredible to see the details of the workmanship.
